St. Philip Church
St. Philip Church, a part of St. Marianne Cope Parish, was founded in 1926 by a group of Polish immigrants who settled in the East Windsor, CT area. The founding pastor was Rev. John Kondziolka, who immigrated to the U.S. after serving as a parish priest in Poland for several years. At the time, records suggest the church was a small wooden structure located on either Church Street or Depot Street, and Father Kondziolka worked tirelessly to build and grow the church and its community of parishioners.
The church was dedicated to St. Philip, also known as Philip the Apostle, who was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ. Philip traveled widely to spread the teachings of Christ, eventually becoming a missionary in Greece. He is remembered for his humility and dedication to serving others, as well as for his role in the early spread of Christianity.
The church grew rapidly over the years, and in 1939, the current church building was constructed on East Main Street. The new church was designed in the traditional Gothic style and featured stained glass windows and other artwork that reflected the church’s rich cultural heritage.
