St Catherine Cemetery
A Historic Cemetery in Broad Brook CT
St. Catherine Cemetery is a Catholic cemetery, established in 1903 and is part of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Hartford to serve the needs of the growing Catholic population in the area. The land for the cemetery was donated by the local philanthropist, James J. Goodwin, who was a prominent Catholic businessman and politician in Connecticut.
The cemetery’s first burial was that of Michael Tierney in August 1903, and it has since become the final resting place of many prominent members of the local Catholic community, including priests, nuns, and prominent laypersons.
St. Catherine Cemetery is maintained by the St. Catherine Cemetery Association, a non-profit organization that oversees the cemetery’s operation and upkeep. The association is governed by a board of directors, and its members are appointed by the Archbishop of Hartford.
Today, St. Catherine Cemetery continues to serve the Catholic community in Broad Brook and the surrounding area, providing a peaceful and dignified resting place for those who have passed away. The cemetery remains an important part of the local community’s history and heritage, reflecting the Catholic faith and traditions of the area’s residents.
